“They just completely lost their vision as mine got stronger and I gained more
awareness of exactly the artist I wanted to be,” she explains. So she funded
the recording of her own album, calling on her friends to be her band and
Enter Shikari producer Dan Weller immediately agreed to produce it.

Who does she sound like?

Having grown up listening to grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains,
there’s a nonconformist streak through her music. However, there are no
loud, grinding riffs here. Her music style is closer to that of Debbie Harry
or Chrissie Hynde and she describes her new record as “pop with underlying
grunge guitars with a little bit of a Fleetwood Mac vibe”.

What’s her career highlight so far?

“Playing British Summer Time at Hyde Park was amazing,” she says. “I’m a big
Elvis Costello fan and I got to play on the same day as him. Also having
people who weren’t my mates singing along and knowing the words.”

What’s her goal?

Having watched Later with Jools Holland for years she quickly cites being
invited to perform live for him as a dream. “I’ve also always wanted to win
an Ivor Novello award,” she adds. “That might not be for a few years but
I’ve always considered myself a storyteller before anything else.”

Olivia Sebastianelli’s EP ‘Perfect Getaway’ is out on ECOLA Records on
October 6. She embarks on a UK tour supporting Nina Nesbitt on October 8.
